The Fond du Lac Running Club is hosting a free weekly six-week series held every Wednesday evening until Aug. 21. The series, which began July 17, takes place at Theisen Middle School, 525 E. Pioneer Road in Fond du Lac beginning at 6 p.m..
The Summer Youth Running Series is a free cross country event for all students entering grades 8 and under as of the 2013-14 school year. The event is open to the public and students from all school districts are encouraged to participate regardless of what sports they might play during the regular school year.
No pre-registration is required. Running participants must check in each week at the registration table before their scheduled race. Registration begins at 6 p.m., followed by the 1/8-mile run for pre-kindergarten, and kindergarten boys and girls at 6:15 p.m.
At 6:20 p.m., the first, second and third grade boys and girls will run the 1/4-mile race; and at 6:30 p.m. the fourth, fifth and sixth grade boys and girls will run the 1/2-mile race.
The last race will be the 3/4-mile for the seventh and eighth grade boys and girls, which will begin at 6:40 p.m.
High school coaches and athletes will be assisting participants with registration and the course.
All participants in the weekly SYR Series will receive a participant award each week they attend. The school with the highest total number of participants in 2013 throughout all six weeks will receive a special award upon the conclusion of August SYR Series .
