Traditionally there is a dire need for blood donations during the summer due to outdoor activities and vacations. This year is no exception, as the Red Cross has issued an emergency request for donors of all blood types due to even fewer donations this summer than in the past.

To assist the Red Cross in meeting the need for blood, the Holyland community will be hosting a blood drive on Tuesday, Aug. 6. Blood donations will be accepted at Maximillians in Mount Calvary from 11:45 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Persons who are healthy, at least 17 years old (age 16 with parental consent) and weigh a minimum of 110 pounds are eligible to give blood. Walk-ins are welcome.

As always, donors will be treated to a light lunch after giving blood.
