Just before Jeff Storm headed out on the track for the Larry Detjens Memorial last year, he got some last-minute advice from Dick Trickle.

"He just said, 'I'm going to be in the stands tonight. If I see you grind those tires one time in the first 75 laps, I'm going to throw a full can of beer right at you,'" said Storm, 45, who was part of Chris Wimmer's crew Saturday. "I didn't grind the tires."

It's just one story that has been told about Trickle at State Park Speedway in Wausau this weekend, just months after the former short-track legend and NASCAR driver committed suicide. ...
