I use the bus frequently and enjoy taking Metro Ride to get around the Wausau community. I think more people should take public transit before complaining about the cost spent upon it or wishing to have it cease to exist. For those of us who can't afford a car or are unable to drive, it is how we get around. It is how I get to my doctor's appointments, go to the grocery store, pay my bills and live my life. For me, the cost of a bus pass or tokens is far less than a car payment, gasoline and insurance would be.

Taking the bus allows me independence. I don't have to rely on calling someone for a ride, finding a taxi service at the last minute or even upon mileage. I simply walk to the end of my driveway, wait a few minutes and I am on my way. For me, Metro Ride is my ride.

This may be one liberal idea I can support. I frequently ride the train or bus when I travel to an unfamiliar city on business. This week in Denver, I took a bus, light rail and a shuttle. Wausau needs a base public transportation structure to be viable. People also need to be willing to use it and walk a little more.

The biggest challenge is we don't see broad based support for public transit until there's broad access to public transit and we can't build a public transit system with broad access without that broad support, unless we have leaders - public or private - willing to lead this critical investment in public infrastructure.

Transportation costs come in only behind housing in a typical household budget, in terms of magnitude - even higher than food. To the extent that we can mitigate this (through affordable public transit), we provide an important service with benefits that extend well beyond the direct users and into the overall economy.

I would use it a lot more if it went out to Rib Mountain since that's where my job is.

If Metro Ride ran later at night and to more convenient spots, you would get a lot more people riding it. All night city buses, yeah!

I am all for the sales tax proposal, and I doubt a penny on the dollar will dissuade any shoppers from visiting the area to shop, in fact it would enable more people to shop in Rothschild and Rib Mountain. I will contact my state senator and Rep. Mandy Wright with my support.

If the bus went to Rib Mountain, I would ride it all the time.

Metro Ride had additional routes years ago but they cut a complete route and another to a part time route because of lack of ridership. How will adding more routes now do any good? And what happened to all the money that was supposed to be saved by Metro Ride taking over paratransit?

I wish it ran on Saturday. By the time I get off work, I have no time to do anything that requires the bus because it doesn't run after 6 p.m.
