Morning roundup: Mulumba finds home on football field

Jul. 30, 2013

The Green Bay Packers have had a surprising amount of success transforming undrafted college free agents into NFL outside linebackers in recent years.

Eastern Michigan rookie Andy Mulumba is vying to become the latest in the line of overlooked prospects like Dezman Moses and Jamari Lattimore to find a home in Green Bay.

On paper, the 6-foot-3, 260-pound Mulumba appears to be a perfect fit for the Packers’ 3-4 defense, but his story goes further than his on-field credentials.

One of six siblings, Mulumba was born and raised in Congo, spending his first 12 years there before his family relocated to Montreal, Canada, due to government turmoil and concerns about his family’s safety.
