Police say a man armed himself with a blowtorch Wednesday morning and lit his house on fire before subduing him with a Taser.

Menasha police responded about 8:40 a.m. Wednesday to check on the welfare of a man on Dakota Grove. When they arrived, the man was agitated, locked his door and "would only growl at officers and stare at them."

The man then lit the house on fire, police say. Chief Tim Styka and several officers then entered the home and shot a beanbag round that hit the man in the shoulder.

Police eventually used a Taser to subdue the man and take him into custody.

Neenah-Menasha Fire Rescue put out the fire and the man was taken to a hospital for a mental health evaluation.
