Richardson's career in NFL still in question

Jul. 31, 2013

Sean Richardson still isn稚 sure whether he値l be able to continue his football career or if he値l even find out before the end of the training camp.

The second-year safety injured the C-5 vertebrae in his neck on the opening kickoff of the Packers game at the New York Giants last November and had fusion surgery in January. He痴 on the physically unable to perform list after failing his pre-training camp physical and still is in the rehabilitation phase of his recovery.

Richardson confirmed that he doesn稚 know whether his neck will heal in a way that will allow him to continue his career.

展ith an injury like that it痴 serious and they池e being real cautious about it, Richardson said. 添ou just have to take it day by day. Some people come back from this injury and some people don稚. Everybody is always like, so and so came back and so and so didn稚. Every injury is different for each person.

Richardson said he thinks the injury occurred on a facemask-to-facemask collision on that opening kickoff and that he felt no sensation of injury at the time. He practiced the next week but suffered occasional back spasms, and when the team痴 medical staff had him undergo an MRI test, it found he had a herniated disc.

典hat痴 why we were devastated by the news, Richardson said. 的 never loss any motion, strength or anything.
