One of the goals of United Way of Inner Wisconsin's Volunteer Center is to recruit and match volunteers for nonprofit organizations needing your help in south Wood and Adams counties. The following are this week's volunteer opportunities.

Stuff the School Bus - South Wood County: Volunteers are needed to hold school supply drives through Aug. 8 and drop school supplies off from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 8 at Veterans Memorial Park. Volunteers are needed Aug. 8 the help sort school supplies as they come in and to haul boxes. Volunteers are needed Aug. 16 to help set up for distribution; and volunteers are needed Aug. 17 to help distribute school supplies to local children in need.

Stuff the School Bus - Adams County: Volunteers are needed to hold school supply drives through Aug. 16; and on Aug. 16, volunteers are needed to help collect the school supplies and haul boxes. Volunteers are needed to help sort school supplies on Aug. 19 to 20; and to help distribute school supplies on Aug. 20 to 21.

Safe Routes to School (wisconsin Rapids Police Department): 18 volunteers are needed to participate in a "Walking School Bus" to Mead Elementary School. Volunteers escort groups of children to school for the 2013-14 school year. Mead Elementary School is the first location selected for this program with hopes of extending it to other schools in the district. There are three routes, and two volunteers are needed per route per day. Hours are 7:30 a.m. to 8:25 a.m. (mornings only). Volunteers must agree to a background check, need to be able to walk up to one mile and be available for a 1- to 2-hour training session.

Family Center: The Family Center is need of volunteers to help with child care from 9 a.m. to noon Thursdays during meeting times for the moms. Volunteers must pass a background check and confidentiality is a must. There are also many other volunteer opportunities at the center.
