Vegetables and beer are one of those combinations that just don't seem to mesh well.

Fruit has a distinct advantage over vegetables when it comes to beer, sharing a most important ingredient with malt - sugar - which makes it easier to blend in. There are few such connections with vegetables. In fact, the name of a specific off-flavor in beer is "vegetal."

Magic Hat's HiCu, pronounced the same as "haiku," uses cucumber as a main ingredient. I like cucumbers in my Chicago-style hot dogs. I like it in mango-habanero salsa. Also in salads or by itself with a dip. But, in a beer? ...
