Young and able: 22-year old Annis leads Merrill into state tourney

Even though he sports a dark, scruffy beard, Johnny Annis still resembles a player for the Merrill American Legion baseball team more than its first-year coach.

The 22-year-old - just a few years removed from playing for the squad himself - led Post 46 through a series a drills Thursday afternoon at Athletic Park in final preparation for today's Class AA state tournament opener against Holmen, pulling players aside for individual instruction and also taking their place in the field as they took their turn at the plate.
