The calendar says it is August. Some time it feels like August and other times it doesn't. Either way, it is here and that means music. Wednesday Night Music in the Park is sponsored by the Spencer Chamber of Commerce and the Women's Club. There will be three performances this year instead of the usual four.
On Aug. 7, In the Groove will be playing an acoustic set of class rock music appealing to a wide range of audiences. The group has performed in the park before, and I am sure they will put on a wonderful performance. Great musicians and a female vocalist may just make you want to get up and dance. Refreshments will be served by St. John's Lutheran Church starting at 6 p.m. The band will start playing around 6:30 p.m.
The second performance of the summer will feature the Spencer Area Community Band on Aug. 14. Talented musicians from Spencer and the surrounding communities gather together and put in a few practices. Then it is show time. Audiences in attendance that night will be treated to some classic marches and other light and fun music. It is always a joy to hear this group perform. Young and older musicians combine their talents for a wonderful evening of music. Refreshments will be provided by the Spencer Kids Group starting at 6:30 p.m. with music to follow.
Closing out the music series will be the Central Wisconsin Concertina Band on Aug. 21. This show is sponsored by the Women's Club who will also be serving refreshments. The band has performed previous summers, and is returning by popular request. Refreshments will be served starting at 5:30 p.m. with the music beginning at 6 p.m.
There are picnic tables in the shelter, but you may want to bring your lawn chairs. The picnic tables fill up quickly. As they say, "The early bird gets the worm," but in the case of the music performances, "The early birds get the best seats." Enjoy the music. Warm up those feet for some good old time toe tapping and have your hands ready to applaud the groups performing this year.
