Hawk: 'If you don't test for something, guys are going to do it'

Aug. 2, 2013

A.J. Hawk’s recently restructured contract wasn’t the only topic on the Green Bay Packers’ eight-year linebacker hit while meeting with the media on Friday.

Like teammate Clay Matthews did last Friday, Hawk threw his weight behind the NFL and its players association putting measures in place to being testing for human growth hormone.

“I think you should 100 percent test for it because if you don’t test for something, guys are going to do it, they’re going to find it,” Hawk said. “I don’t know how many people might be on it, but I told them years ago they could take my blood every camp. You can have random blood samples of it just like we do for the steroids. I would definitely be a proponent to test us.”

HGH testing in the NFL has been a pressing issue since the league and the players union came to an agreement on its new collective bargaining agreement in 2011.

According to a report from NFL Network, the two sides have continued their talks towards an agreement after a meeting last week where both sides were cordial.

As has been customary, the report said the remaining sticking points concern procedural, economic and appeals issues.
