Newman Catholic Schools will accept applications in August to Wisconsin Parental Choice Program, a statewide school program expansion that will allow low-income families an opportunity to receive a tuition voucher to attend private and religious schools during the upcoming school year.

The program is limited to families with incomes at or below 185 percent of the federal poverty level. In the 2013-2014 school year, participation will be limited to 500 students, with no more than 1 percent from any individual public school district. In the following year, the cap increases to 1,000 students.

Parents must apply using the online application system between Thursday and Aug. 9. If you want to apply but don't have access to a computer, NCS will provide access and a private work area to assist with completing the application. Call 715-845-5735 to schedule a time.

Application materials are available through the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction at http://sms.dpi.wi.gov/wpcp-statewide.

Parents will need to take proof of residency and income to the Newman Catholic Schools District Office at 619 Stark St., Wausau from Thursday to Aug. 9, no later than 4 p.m. Only an authorized representative of NCS will be able to verify the parent information. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The 25 private schools that receive the most applications will enter the program in the 2013-2014 school year.

For more information, contact Newman Catholic Schools District Office at 715-845-5735.
