Center offers parenting classes

Nurturing Skills for Families classes will be offered Tuesdays through Oct. 1, at Lincoln County Family Resource Center in the lower level of the St. Vincent de Paul Community Care Center, 401 W. Main St. Merrill.

Class sessions will run from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Nurturing Skills for Families helps parents learn new approaches and skills to more effectively raise their children to be respectful, responsible adults.

All parents are welcome to attend and registration is required by calling 715-539-9228. No child care is available during this program.

Softball fundraiser this weekend

The Merrill Fire Department will host the 34th Annual Allan Soward Memorial co-ed softball tournament this weekend at Ott's Park in Merrill.

First game will start at approximately 6 PM on Friday night with the championship on Sunday afternoon.

Concessions including the famous "Nacho Grande" will be available. The event will include a large raffle and Smokey the Bear vs. Sparky the Fire Pup kids' game.

Free balance training session offered

If you would like to improve your balance and mobility so you are able to do what you enjoy in a stronger, more capable, body, then plan to attend the ABLE Bodies Balance Training sample class at 9:15 a.m. Monday, Aug. 12, at the Merrill Area Community Enrichment Center.

This Sample Class will be about 45 minutes long. It is free and open to all and will preview the 16-week series to begin Aug. 26.

Calvary to host roast dinner, auction

Calvary Lutheran Church, N365 Cain Creek Road, Merrill, will host its annual Beef Roast and Auction starting at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 18.

The menu will feature seasoned roast beef and barbecued beef, scalloped potatoes, corn and homemade pie served from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost is $9 for adults and $5 for children. Children 5 and younger are free.

A variety of afternoon activities will be offered including old time music, silent auction, live auction and kiddie carnival games.

'Kick Butt' to boost fall fitness

Riverside Athletic Club will offer a four-week Kick Butt Boot Camp from Sept. 16 to Oct. 3 at its location, 500 S. Center Ave. in Merrill.

Participants will work on strength and cardio techniques using kettlebells, stability balls, ropes, TRX and more.

Boot Camp is available for members and nonmembers of Riverside Athletic Club to help people pump up their fall workout routines. The program runs at 6 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays. Cost is $44 for members and $94 for nonmembers before Aug. 31. Add $5 after that date.

Teen reading program continues to Aug. 23

The teen "Beneath the Surface" reading program for grades six to 12 continues until Aug. 23 at T.B. Scott Free Library. Teens are encouraged to visit the library Teen Zone and take the Underground Trivia challenge for fun and for a chance to win prizes.
