These days I find myself in a constant state of déjà vu.

I am currently in rehearsal for Stage Door Theatre Company's "The House of Blue Leaves," opening Aug. 21 at Third Avenue Playhouse and a play with which I have had a long association.

I first encountered it in the early 1970s as a college student in Memphis. It was fairly new then (it premiered in New York in 1971) and was being done all over the country. I was immediately drawn in by its off-the-wall, farcical humor mixed with a genuine pathos. I had never seen anything quite like it before. ...
