Pooch Plunge on Sunday afternoon

The De Pere Parks, Recreation & Forestry Department and the De Pere Dog Park Committee will host the second annual Pooch Plunge for dogs Sunday, Aug. 18, at VFW Park swimming pool on the city's west side.

The fundraising event will start at 1 p.m. and end at 4:45. The pool will close for the 2013 summer season at the conclusion of the Pooch Plunge.

For $5 per dog, pooches can swim in the pool and participate in some fun activities.

Human participants must be at least 16 years old. Dogs must be licensed through their local municipality or county with proof of current rabies vaccination.

Registration forms are online at www.de-pere.org and at De Pere Community Center, 600 Grant St. Registration is being accepted at the Community Center until Friday, Aug. 16. On-site registration is allowed with the appropriate paperwork.

Community blood drives in the area

? The Green Bay Packers Training Camp Blood Drive will run from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, in the fourth-floor Legends Club Room at Lambeau Field Atrium, 1265 Lombardi Ave., Green Bay.

All presenting donors will receive a special American Red Cross giveaway item and be entered in drawings for Packers merchandise. Refreshments as well as complimentary childcare and parking at Lambeau Field will be provided.

All blood types are needed from those who are at least 17 years old (16 years old with parental consent).

? BloodCenter of Wisconsin will hold a De Pere Community Blood Drive from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 19, at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 2066 Lawrence Drive.

Anyone who is at least 17 years old, in general good health and meets eligibility requirements is encouraged to donate blood. Parental consent is required for 16-year-olds to donate.

Donors can schedule an appointment by going to www.bcw.edu/StMarkor by calling (877) 232-4376. Walk-ins also are welcome.
