Public school districts are heavily scrutinized for how they spend taxpayers' dollars, but a service often overlooked is busing.

Only two Fox Cities school districts spend under $1 million in annual busing costs: Chilton and Little Chute, at $357,792 and $78,000, respectively.

The Appleton Area School District spends the most of any Fox Cities school district on busing, with costs in 2012-13 totaling $3.2 million, said Don Hietpas, chief financial officer.
