Letters to the editor: Obamacare beginning of socialized medicine

4:56 PM, Aug. 16, 2013  |  Comments

Sen. Harry Reid stated on a national public radio program "Nevada Week in Review" on Friday, Aug. 9, that the implementation of Obamacare is a step toward an eventual single-payer national healthcare system. I'm certain this was the intent from the Obamacare conception. When show panelist Steve Sebelius asked if that meant eventually doing away with insurance-based coverage, Reid replied, "Yes, yes. Absolutely, yes."

So, what does this mean to Americans and their health care? If you consider a government-based insurance plan, say on the order of Medicare and Medicaid, you will see medical reimbursement to the tune of one-fourth to one-third the actual charges. So, what does this mean to you, the patient. Think about it. Could you run your business, or your household for that matter, on one-fourth to one-third of your present income? How do you think the medical profession is going to handle the influx of patients on less income? Your physician will probably retire or seek employment in another field. Hospitals and doctors' offices will be terribly understaffed, so you will have to wait, and wait, for medical care. Nurses will have to take the place of physicians.

The Affordable Health Care act will destroy our health care. And what about all those employees of the insurance companies? They, of course, will lose their jobs and the government will grow even bigger to be able to handle the claims.

If you do not believe my prognosis, kindly check out Medicare and Medicaid payments to see for yourself. The American people better wake up and demand the repeal of this abomination.
