Care provider attends conference

Sharon Mras, owner/operator of Sharon's Care Center in Stevens Point, recently attended the National Association for Family Child Care Association Conference, held in Scottsdale.

During the event, Mras was presented a certificate of achievement in recognition of outstanding dedication and service as a previous member of the organization's executive board member. She also received a lifetime membership with the NAFCC.

Mras also received recognition from First Lady Michelle Obama's "Let's Move Child Care Campaign," as Mras was nominated for the 2013 Family Child Care Innovation Award. She also received a certificate in Professional Institute Leadership Training during an eight-hour session titled "Building your Association Through Strategic Planning and Grant Writing."

Mras, who has been in business for over 30 years locally, previously served as the state delegate for the President's Council and as Affiliate Council delegate.

Alliant unveils board appointment

Alliant Energy Corp. has appointed Susan Whiting, vice chairwoman of television ratings giant Nielsen, to its board of directors, the Wisconsin-based electric and natural gas utility company announced Monday.

Whiting began her career at Nielsen in 1978 as part of the management training program and has held various positions at the company, including executive vice president, chairwoman of Nielsen's global media business and president and CEO of its U.S. television and advertising business, according to an Alliant Energy news release. She became vice chairwoman in 2008 and took on the duties of chief diversity officer in 2010.

Headquartered in Madison, Alliant Energy provides electric and natural gas service to about 1 million electric and 415,000 natural gas customers in the Midwest, including in Wood, Portage, Adams and Juneau counties.
