After my story ran on summertime “kids eat free” deals, a number of seniors called me to find out where they could get discounts in area restaurants.
Seems to me that plenty of places have discounted senior menus, but that’s not the case said one caller.
“Supper clubs don’t have anything,” he said. “I’ve found the best coffee is for 32 cents at Burger King. Denny’s has a nice senior menu. I’m on a limited income, but I have all day to do something. Where else can I go?”
Restaurant owners who want to court him, and his pals, can email me the details and I’ll run a summary on Friday.
I checked on Denny’s, and besides having a special menu for those age 55 and older, seniors can get a $1 coffee anytime. If they show an AARP card at the register, they’ll get an additional 20% discount from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. every day.
AARP cardholders also have more perks: they can get a free donut with the purchase of a large beverage at Dunkin’ Donuts. They can get a 15 percent discount Monday through Thursday at Outback Steakhouse.
IHOP has senior nights Tuesday and Thursday from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. If you buy one entrée from the senior menu, you get a second one free. Senior means 55 and older.
If readers know of more, please email me with the information by Thursday noon for a larger story on Friday.
