A public-private partnership in south Wood County has made a local pedestrian crossing the first of its kind in the state, project leaders say.

As part of an ongoing capacity expansion at its Port Edwards plant, Canadian chemical producer ERCO Worldwide recently relocated its parking lot to its previous site across Highway 73, just north of Nekoosa. It also moved the pedestrian crosswalk, once positioned on a difficult-to-see part of the road, a couple hundred feet north of its previous location, said Joe Terry, village administrator and engineer.
