Dredging of the Oconto River began Thursday, a month after the city learned it was received a $1.5 million grant to help pay for the project.

"Everything's off to a good start," Superintendent of Public Works Jeremy Wusterbarth said Friday.

The actual dredging machine arrived a few weeks ago. However, work couldn't start until construction of large retention pond behind the Public Works Building was completed and officials from the city and dredging company reached final agreement on the amount of material to be removed, he said. ...
