Eight people are without a home after an overnight fire destroyed a duplex on Wausau's east side, the most serious incident out of dozens caused by a line of storms that thundered across north central Wisconsin on Wednesday night.

No one was injured in the blaze at 610 E. Union St., a residential area just of east of North Sixth Street. Authorities say lightning initially started the fire at about 10 p.m. Wednesday. Firefighters thought the fire was out, but they were called back to the scene at about 5 a.m. Thursday when the blaze flared back up, Wausau Fire Battalion Chief Mark Krueger said.
