The Little Chute Area School District was recently awarded a $175,000 planning grant from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction for a K-8 charter school.

Flex Academy will offer a blended learning format, lead teacher Kent Swanson said. Students will have personalized learning plans and will be able to take advantage of digital or online curriculum.

The school has several community partners, including the Village of Little Chute, the Fox Cities YMCA and the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. The Heart of the Valley YMCA and the Little Chute Civic Center will host learning centers where students can study, Swanson said.

Flex Academy is scheduled to open at the start of the 2014-15 school year.
