Oshkosh Northwestern Media apologized Friday for an advertisement published in its Aug. 23 Prep Football Preview Section that violated WIAA rules.

General Manager Stew Rieckman said the Northwestern created a sponsor ad which included a photo of a student athlete which could jeopardize the student's eligibility. Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association rules prohibit using students in commercial advertisements.

The apology said, "It is the Oshkosh Northwestern's responsibility to review content in ads and we take full responsibility for allowing the sponsors ad to run with a student's photo and not informing them of WIAA rules. Our apologies to the student-athlete, the sponsor, area high schools, and the WIAA."
