The eighth annual campout/reunion for the family of the Ray and Kathleen Sommers of Custer was held the last week of July at Governor Dodge State Park.

Maria Antonetti, 23, oldest of the 37 grandchildren of Ray and Kathleen Sommers, drove with her husband, Mario, to the campsite from Manchester, New Hampshire. Their youngest grandchild, Luke Buckett, who turned 5 that week, drove with his family from White House, Tenn. Other family members came from Washington, D.C., Alameda, Calif., and eight Wisconsin cities. Most of the family stayed at a group non-electric campsite.

Some of the highlights of the week included paddleboarding, swimming, catching their limit of fish, hiking, biking, sharing food and stories, listening to bagpiper Joe Sommers, and telling scary true stories around the evening campfires.
