Costs rise to pump septic, holding tanks

Central Wisconsin residents are beginning to see costs double to empty holding and septic tanks. The increased costs reflect the need to properly treat the waste prior to agricultural field application, government officials said.

The average cost for pumping a 2,000-gallon holding tank has increased from about $85 to about $130, said rural Marshfield-area residents. The costs differ based on the company and the amount of septage removed.

Companies that empty these containers now are taking the waste to city wastewater treatment plants where a fee is charged rather than treat the waste ...
