Cobb, Nelson improving but may not play vs. Chiefs

Aug. 25, 2013

Receiver Randall Cobb said he’s feeling pretty good in his recovery from a biceps injury and could play on Thursday in the Packers’ final preseason game at Kansas City.

“If it’s up to me, I’ll be on the field,” said Cobb, who participated in today’s practice conducted in helmets and shorts. “But we’re going to be smart about the situation. We know what we’re dealing with. We know what we’ve got going forward. So we’re going to be smart about it.”

Receiver Jordy Nelson also practiced after missing most of training camp with a knee problem.

“Jordy has been ahead of schedule since the first week,” said Packers coach Mike McCarthy. “He looks good. I’m hopeful if the week goes smooth he’ll be able to play this week.”

McCarthy said the same thing applies to Cobb’s status for Kansas City.

Nelson didn’t care to speculate on whether he will play.

“I have no idea,” he said. “We’ll have to wait and see. That’s obviously a decision by the guys upstairs. If we do, it’ll be good. If we don’t then it won’t be a big deal.

“I don’t think it’s going to matter because if I do play, I don’t think it’s going to be much. I think that little bit of work is not going to make a difference if I get it or not, but we’ll see.”

Nelson said practice is more important than playing in the final preseason game.

“You’re going to get more reps in practice, you’re going to get more looks in practice, you’re going to get more balls in practice,” Nelson said. “That, to me, is the more important thing than going to Kansas City and getting three, five plays or whatever it might be.”
