Duathlon kicks off United Way campaign

New races attract more people to fourth annual event

New events, new participants and new volunteers helped make the fourth annual Run, Bike, Unite Duathlon a successful start to the United Way of Portage County's annual campaign.

Members of the Mikel family came from Black River Falls to participate in two of the new events, the Kids' Duathlon on Friday at Bukolt Park and the Just For Fun Duathlon on Saturday at Sentry Insurance.

Nancy Mikel took part in the Just For Fun Duathlon, and crossed the finish line first in the untimed race consisting of a 2-mile run, 8-mile bike ride and another quarter-mile run. Mikel, a former Stevens Point resident ...
