United Way Fox Cities kicks off 2013 campaign

United Way Fox Cities hopes to raise $7.7 million to help Fox Cities residents meet basic needs, the agency announced Tuesday.

About 220 people attended the 2013 campaign kickoff, which was held beneath a gigantic red and white tent at Secura Insurance Co. in Appleton to shield the crowd from the sultry weather.

"We like to think that our goal is needs-based," said Peter Kelly, United Way Fox Cities' president and chief operating officer. "We take a look at what all the agencies have requested from us, and we add all of those numbers up and then try and go out and raise that amount of money. But the ...
