The Continuing Education Office at UW-Fond du Lac is offering both Strong Women Strength Training and Yoga classes starting in early September.

Yoga I and II classes start the week of Sept. 3 and run for 15 weeks. There are two options for Yoga I: Monday/Wednesday, 1:30-2:20 p.m., with Jeanne McDowell or Tuesday/Thursday, 1:55-2:45 p.m., with Lora Vahlsing. A Yoga II class is offered on Tuesday/Thursday, 3-3:45 p.m., with Vahlsing.

Through yoga, students will develop strength, flexibility and calmness of mind along with improved posture and vitality resulting in a trimmer, firmer and stronger body. Students are encouraged to arrive with an almost empty stomach and will need to bring a blanket or mat and wear comfortable clothing. Yoga I and II can be taken for credit ($197.93 plus applicable campus fees) or as a non-credit course ($99).

Strong Women Strength Training sessions are available on Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday mornings for an hour starting at either 9 a.m. or 10:15 a.m. Classes begin the week of Sept. 16 and run for 10 weeks.

The Strong Women Strength Training is a safe, effective, evidence-based strength training program designed by Dr. Miriam Nelson of Tuff's University. It helps middle aged and older women build muscle, strengthen bones, prevent frailty, improve balance and increase overall physical and mental health.

Each participant's supplies should include comfortable clothes, gym or tennis shoes, floor mat or towel, water bottle, ankle weights (adjustable up to 10 pounds each, 20 pounds total), hand weights (a pair each weight level) 3 pounds and 5 pounds. Pre-registration is required as space is limited. New participants are required to obtain and sign proper paperwork before the first class. The course fee is $40.
