Manitowoc board approves half-time teacher for Jackson

The Manitowoc Board of Education approved an additional half-time teacher for first grade at Jackson Elementary School by a 4-2 vote Tuesday, according to Superintendent Marcia Flaherty. Linda Gratz and Karen Rohrer voted against the measure because they wanted to add a full-time teacher, Flaherty said, and Keith Shaw was absent.

Based on current enrollment for the 2013-14 school year, first grade at Jackson will have 51 students, slightly lower than the 54 projected earlier this month. Fifty-one students and two teachers would have meant one class of 25 and one of 26 even if no additional ...
