Man gets probation in baby abuse case

A former Nekoosa man authorities say was involved in seriously injuring an 8-month-old baby was given probation during his sentencing in Wood County Circuit Court.

Robert J. Winker, 28, currently living in Racine, was given 18 months probation and ordered to pay $758, undergo any counseling deemed necessary and have no unauthorized contact with children for misdemeanor battery and disorderly conduct. A charge of child abuse was dismissed and read into the record. Wood County Circuit Judge Greg Potter sentenced Winker Monday. He stayed 90-day and 180-day jail sentences.
