Safety the 'buzz'-word at West De Pere sites

A new security pad with a button, video camera and speaker is on the wall next to the main entrance outside West De Pere Middle School. Visitors to all schools in the West De Pere School District will have to push the button and be buzzed in by a school employee before entering the school.

The first credo in the mission statement for the West De Pere School District is "to create a safe ? environment for students and staff."

As most of the children in the De Pere area get ready to start another school year next week, officials in the west-side school district are putting added importance on school safety.

The first day for all public and parochial schools in the city is Tuesday, Sept. 3, with the exception of Wisconsin International School, which commenced classes Wednesday, Aug. 28. ...
