Ready for a ride on the Sea Dragon?: Bay Beach Amusement Park's newest ride -- the Sea Dragon -- was christened and officially opened for business Friday, Aug. 30, 2013, in Green Bay.

The Sea Dragon has officially set sail at Bay Beach Amusement Park.

The swinging gondola ride opened Friday as the latest new addition to Green Bay's beloved waterfront amusement park.

City officials held a "christening" ceremony at 11 a.m. Friday and then welcomed the first riders for the 44-foot-tall viking-like ship attraction.

The city purchased the Sea Dragon earlier this year for $175,000 from a traveling carnival operator near Boston. The 20-year-old ride then underwent a complete overhaul and facelift before being installed near the Zippin Pippin roller coaster.

Admission for the Sea Dragon is 75 cents.

Bay Beach is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily until Sept. 7, and then 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays only until Sept. 29 when it closes for the season.
