Growing pumpkins and gourds is a great family gardening activity that keeps the whole family interested and active in the garden all four seasons. That's right, four seasons! It all starts in spring when families can begin exploring the seed aisles and racks at area garden centers and garden catalogs.

Miniature pumpkins, birdhouse gourds, apple gourds and any number of crazy gourds in interesting shapes and sizes are all great and easy ways to involve kids in the fun side of gardening.
