Things have cooled down in the Wausau area, and meteorologists expect that to continue through the weekend.

The Wausau area forecast from the National Weather Service in Green Bay calls for mostly sunny skies today, with a high near 81 degrees. Clouds are expected to move into the area overnight, with a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mostly after 1 a.m.

The rain and storms have a 50 percent chance of continuing through Sunday, mixed with partly sunny conditions, meteorologists say. A high of 79 is expected.

The cooling trend is expected to continue through Labor Day, with a high of 71 and mostly sunny skies predicted.
