Highlights from coach Mike McCarthy’s press conference today.
*We had opportunity over weekend to continue our QB evaluation. Seneca Wallace came in yesterday, actually had workout in spring, I thought he was a good fit for our room. Glad he’s here.
*Wallace has been in league 11 years. He’s been backup QB primarily his whole career. He understands the role. He has a lot of experience. Confident he will be ready to play.
*As far as what happened in last seven months, that’s normal process of developing any football team. Training camp was to create opportunities for every player that came through here. You evaluate and you access. That’s a matter of what happened. It didn’t work out the way we’re used to, but I make no apologies for how it turned out. Players didn’t take advantage of opportunities.
*Met with Coleman last night, talked more with him on personal level. Told him his strengths and weaknesses. I like Coleman, had future in this league.
*Scott Tolzien is excellent fit for us. Preseason tape was impressive. We’re excited he was available. That’s why you have a personnel department.
*Tolzien and Wallace are more focused on getting ready for game. They can give insight into 49ers.
*I knew nothing of story that Wallace might retire. His explanation to me was that there was miscommunication on his part.
*Wallace has lot of experience in our offense. He was in Seattle for several years. He has a lot of experience period.
*Casey Hayward, we’ll give injury report on Wednesday.
*We’ve got some work to do in return game. With some decision we made, we have decisions to make. Feel good about Jeremy Ross, very impressed with Micah Hyde.
*I feel good about where we are offensively. There’s always a little bit of unknown.
*I like all three tackles. Don Barclay started today at right tackle, I wouldn’t be surprised if Marshall Newhouse plays in the game.
*Chris Banjo, have to be impressed. He was productive.
