Manitowoc council focuses on fire department budget shortfall

City Council members went into closed session Tuesday night to consider "possible action on performance of fire chief."

Last week, it was revealed there may be by year-end an $800,000 shortfall in ambulance net revenue that has prompted staffing and fiscal changes in the department led by Fire Chief Bill Manis.

That is nearly 20 percent less than what was anticipated in the 2013 budget authored by Mayor Justin Nickels and endorsed by the City Council. ...
