Owen farm named a Century Farm

Esther Niedzwiecki of Owen was among the Wisconsin farm families honored Aug. 6 for carrying on the state's rich heritage of 100 years of continuous family ownership in real property.

Her farm was one of 126 properties to join the 8,716 Century Farms already honored since the program began in 1948. There were eight featured this time from Clark County.

Niedzwiecki's grandparents, Joe and Hilda Kangas, came to recently cleared land left by the John S. Owen Lumber Co. They had clear-cut trees, leaving only stumpage, which her grandfather had to slowly remove with horse and dynamite. They lived ...
