Letters to the editor: Smoking in local taxis should not be allowed

5:05 PM, Sep. 3, 2013  |  Comments

Last year I wrote a letter to the editor about cigarette smoke in public transportation, mainly city cabs and buses. I wrote about second-hand smoke and how dangerous that really is.

Now, I will talk about a privately owned taxi cab service. I witnessed the cab drivers smoking many times in the cars of the privately owned taxi service. Most people don't know how bad cigarette smoke really is. I have lung disease, asthma and now COPD. It does not do any good to ask for a smoke-free taxi because not only do the drivers smoke, but customers smoke as well, the drivers allow them to smoke.

Either way you look at it, you are getting a smelly cab. There is nobody to report the problem to. The owner of the private taxi told me he can't do anything about the smoking issues. He stated it is "out of his control."

I wish smoking in private and public transportation will be banned. Second hand smoke really is bad news.
