Sheboygan County officials say work is now more than halfway complete on a new 1.7-mile paved recreation trail that follows a former Union Pacific rail spur in Sheboygan.

Works crews last week continued paving a 330-foot abandoned rail bridge crossing the Sheboygan River near North 14th Street and Erie Avenue after earlier clearing steel rails and wood ties from the structure.

"The bridge is a key link for the trail," said Aaron Brault, Sheboygan County's planning director. "We've made a lot of progress." ...
