More than 300 friends, colleagues, admirers and family members of one of Wausau's most familiar faces was celebrated, mourned and laid to rest Wednesday.

Richard "Dick" Dudley, whose commitment to the community earned him the nickname "Mr. Wausau," died Aug. 27 after a long illness. He was 89. His funeral was held at Saint Michael Parish in Wausau; the Rev. Bill Grevatch officiated.

In a fitting eulogy that provoked both laughter and tears, longtime friend and colleague Tom Bolger described Dudley as a humble, generous man who was a "giant among his peers." ...
