As you can tell from the name, Vino Latte Gourmet Coffee Shop, Eatery & Wine Boutique has a little something for everyone.

Entering this cozy spot on the corner of Thomas and Grand, it’s apparent that this is a great place to sit and relax. Lots of wood and racks of wine bottles lining the walls give the customer a sense of understated elegance and comfort. There is a pretty little patio in the back where folks can enjoy food or drink under a huge shady tree.

Customers order at the counter inside from a menu that is comprised of various sandwiches and wraps along with homemade soups and salads. Of course there is a myriad of coffee drinks and if you are an early bird, you can grab breakfast to have along with your white chocolate macadamia nut mocha if you are so inclined.

The staff is friendly and helpful both about the food and the wine. Free Wi Fi is available if you want to peruse whatever interests you online while you dine. (Did you see what I did there?)

So to give you a better idea of the menu, the choices include yummy sounding wraps and sandwiches such as Mediterranean Chicken, Grilled Turkey Berry wrap, and my choice, the Grecian Beef wrap. My dining companion chose a chicken Panini on focaccia with Swiss cheese, bacon and pineapple. There is also a nice selection of vegetarian options like Grown-Up Grilled Cheese or a Peanut Butter Flax seed wrap, among others.

Vino Latte offers a soup of the day which on this occasion was a delicious sounding Tomato Peanut, so that went on my order as well.

In good time, our food was delivered to the table and we dug in. I must say here that the Tomato Peanut soup was the complete star of the show. A hearty tomato-based, very flavorful soup sprinkled with a generous portion of chopped peanuts had my companion and me wishing we could order a gallon to take home! The seasoning was perfect (you all know how I feel about over-salting soup) and the texture and flavor were on the money. If the other soups are that good, I will be enjoying lunch there more often.

My Grecian Beef Wrap was a large tortilla stuffed with a lot of spinach, deli beef, cucumber and tomato with feta dressing. I ended up removing about half the spinach since the amount on the sandwich took over the other flavors. It was an OK sandwich, but I think next time I will go for either the New Orleans Wrap or the Spicy Asian Wrap with a choice of chicken or pork.

My dining companion, on the other hand, had a delightful Panini that was full of flavor and would definitely be on my “to try next time” list.

All in all, I liked Vino Latte for several reasons: the cozy atmosphere, the good service, interesting sandwiches, divine soup and outdoor dining when weather permits. Being able to have a glass of wine doesn’t hurt either. As a matter of fact, Vino Latte has a monthly wine club, frequent wine tasting events and offers a Thursday 2-for-1 Happy Hour.

Personal chef Ann Liebmann of Wausau operates Time Savor, an in-home meal preparation service.
