Local racing: EWSC honors driver on season finale

Eastern Wisconsin Stock Car held a tribute to a fallen racer and crowned season champions at Championship Night, held Friday at the Manitowoc County Fairgrounds.

A moving tribute to Brian "The Tornado" Portschy during the National Anthem set up a great night of racing. Portschy, an EWSC racer, died Aug. 25 while working on his race car at home in rural Plymouth.

In Grand Nationals racing, Brian Gilles of Plymouth wrapped up a 2013 series championship by winning the first heat, then taking the feature race. Ryan Minster of Sheboygan took second in the feature, while Steven Ruh of Elkhart Lake ...
