Hundreds of students in the D.C. Everest Area School District began school Tuesday, and for sophomores and teachers at the senior high, the first day of high school meant nerves, anxiety and excitement.

Principal Tom Johansen said the first day is always exciting for staff, who get to meet the new students and ease sophomores' fears about new teachers and a new building.

"Today is the day they figure out the lunch system, how to go through their class schedule and get to know their teachers and locker combinations," Johansen said. ...
