Firefighter and Paramedic Jon Leiskau, left, presents $1,000 check from the Merrill Firefighters Charities to Rick Bonnel, activities director at Merrill High School, to assist in the cost of upgrading the Merrill High School weight room facilities. The Merrill Firefighters see this project as an opportunity not only to aid in the training of young Merrill athletes, but also to promote a healthier Merrill. A healthy community cuts the number of times emergency personnel need to respond, which makes the community safer and cuts costs.
