9-11 memorial stair climb draws more than 200 (with video)

Bryant Gottwein, a Sussex Fire Department firefighter, was the first person to finish the 110-story stair climb Saturday to honor the fallen firefighters of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

Gottwein, 24, of the Milwaukee area was one of about 200 people who participated in the third annual climb up and down the 7-story Ghidorzi Cos. Corporate Cove Tower in Wausau. Several of the firefighters wore up to 200 pounds of gear.

"It was a little easier than I thought," said Gottwein, a first-time climber. "I did not have my gear on though, and I wish I would have. I will next time." ...
