Oshkosh residents warned of potential scam

The Oshkosh Police Department is alerting citizens of another telephone scam alert that is affecting citizens of Oshkosh.

An Oshkosh citizen reported that they received a phone call from a person by the name of John that said he was with the U. S. Government giving away grants in the amount of $9000. The citizen was told to contact the number of 202-738-1299 and that they should give a code to the person who answered the phone. Once the code was given, the citizen would receive a $9000 grant that could not be used on things like the lottery or any other thing that was bad. The citizen hung up the phone.
