Oconto opens conference play with a win

OCONTO - The Blue Devils began their Packerland Conference title defense with a 25-16, 25-19, 25-19 sweep of Gibraltar.

Laken James had 14 kills, Emily Shallow had 20 assists and Aleah Willame totaled 24 service points for Oconto (3-5, 1-0).

SURING - Makenzie Sadowski had 22 kills and six blocks and Abby Bieber added 11 kills and 13 digs as Coleman defeated Suring 25-12, 25-16, 22-25, 25-16.

Calley VanBellinger had 10 kills and eight digs to lead Suring.

WABENO - Wabeno won a pair of games Thursday night, defeating White Lake in straight sets 25-12, 25-15, 25-15 and toppling Florence in a five-set thriller 21-25, 25-19, 26-28, 25-15, 15-8.

Mesa Geiter had 43 kills and Holly Spaude had 63 assists combined in the two matches for Wabeno.

Aug. 29

SURING - Niagara swept Gillett 25-7, 25-11, 25-17 and upended Suring 19-25, 25-13, 22-25, 25-23, 15-13 in a Marinette-Oconto Conference triangular.

Brooklyn Wolosyn had 18 kills for Niagara, while Calley VanBellinger had nine kills and 26 digs for Suring, which swept Gillett 25-6, 25-13, 25-20. Suring's Rachel Sleeter added eight aces.

For Gillett, Brianna Lemirande had seven aces and Taylor Kohls had nine kills.

LENA - Lena, Crivitz and Marinette St. Thomas all went 1-1 in a M&O triangular.

For Lena, Melissa Bushmaker had 15 kills, with Kayla Van Lanen notched 12 aces.
